Welcome to A Chronic Voice

Hello, my name is Sheryl and I come from the perpetually hot and humid island of Singapore. I also live with multiple chronic illnesses and disabilities, namely:

The list never seems to stop expanding as well, a story I’m sure many of you are familiar with. The last couple on that list were just diagnosed recently, and I’m still reeling from the shock myself.

How This Publication is Different From My Blog

If you’re already familiar with my blog, achronicvoice.com, you might be wondering what the difference is.

There are lots of things I need to pay attention to when blogging, such as keyword research, on-page and off-page SEO, shareable asset creation and more. Writing is also more constrained as there are checklists to tick off. Yes, I need to market and promote my content, otherwise what good is the blog for?

Substack seemed like the perfect place to write more personal stories, poems and reflective essays once again, which I’ve always loved to do. The community here also seems to be my kind of people - people who enjoy reading and writing, just because.

So in sum, think of my blog as the extroverted side of me, where I share more research-backed resources, medical experiences and reviews. Whilst this publication is the introverted, more introspective version of me, where I share more personal stories, intimate insights and food for thought.

Why Subscribe?

For now, you can read and access all posts for free, as I’m still new to this platform and have no idea what to really offer paid subscribers. However, know that every contribution is deeply appreciated, as living with chronic illness isn’t cheap. My medical bills range between $1,000 - $2,000 per month on average.

Should you choose to subscribe, you will get the latest updates piping hot in your email inbox, and also gain full access to the publication archives as it grows.

Thank You for Being Here

Time is precious, so I thank you for reading this page and publication. Should you have more questions or should any points resonate with you, feel free to leave a comment on the post and we can have a little chat.

Take care, and looking forward to growing this community together with you.
